Horizonti Foundation Announcements

Raffle at Horizonti
On April 29, 2003, the Horizonti Foundation will raffle the chance to win a free video clip production suited for service-oriented NGOs within Georgia . The video studio at Horizonti will produce the clips for two lucky victorious contestant organizations. The first winner will be provided with this service completely free of charge, and the second with a significant discount. The clip will cover the mission and activities of the winner, along with the services that the organization provides for the public.
The raffle will take place at 15:30 at the Horizonti Tbilisi office at the following address: 2 Dolidze St , 6 th floor, tel.: 334287, 330893. Application forms are available from the Horizonti receptionist .
The video clips produced by the Horizonti Video Studio for the winners of the previous raffle will be exhibited during the clip showing. Those organizations that participated in previous raffles and were not successful are still eligible to participate in the raffle along with first time players. Only the applications of the organizations attending (with the exception of the organizations in regions) will be included in the raffle.

GYLA Offers a Cycle of Workshops
Georgian Young Lawyers' Association together with Greek Young Trainees' Association conduct the planned cycle of workshops: "The European legislation and institutions as a model for the Georgian penal and human rights law reform".
The topics of discussion will be the following: Corruption; HumanTrafficking; Implementation of European Court of Human Rights practice in European and Georgian legislation; Draft of the new Criminal Procedures' Code of Georgia-Fundamental Principles and Special Provisions; Establishment of a Code of Lawyers.
The seminars will be held from April 23 till April 26 at GYLA's office.

"24 Hours", the new English-language newspaper in Georgia (a take-off based from the Georgian-language -- "24 Saati" newspaper), prints news and other related information from NGOs and donor organization on a weekly basis.
The NGO news appears every Friday in "24 Hours". Both national and international NGOs are invited to contribute information. This is a great chance to bring your NGO to the attention of donors and the media, and to share information with other NGOs. All information you send will be subject to careful selection and editing. We will only print the most interesting news. News has to be emailed by Thursday 2pm latest.
The newspaper is especially interested in:

The Forestry Department Plans to Hold a Workshop
The Forestry Department of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources will hold a workshop on April 29-30 and invites persons interested to develop Georgian national forestry policy and strategy document. Following issues will be discussed during the workshop:
To develop of the national forestry policy and strategy document;
To organize the process;
To fix the action plan (for the first one year);
To discuss the grant awarding procedure of the organization supporting the development of national forestry program.
The most active and interesting participants will be awarded with special certificates. The seminar will be held in Tabakhmela, participants will be provided with transportation, meal, accommodation and other organizational issues.

TraCCC GO Public lecture "Corruption and the Developing Countries"

Seminar on Situational Analysis of AIV/AIDS Infection
On March 6 th was held the seminar on “Situational Analysis of AIV/AIDS Infection” for the members of the Youth democratic Club. The Youth Democratic Club is UNAG project financed by The National Endowment for Democracy. 34 members of the Club attended the seminar.
Imereti Youth Center implemented a research and as a result they found out that 40% do not have information about AIDS, 45% have some kind of information and 15% were not able to answer the question.
During the meeting the participants discussed different problematic issues and came to an idea that it is necessary to inform the youth about this by implementing informational-educational policy using the language that would be acceptable for them.

Request for Expressions of Interest
The Government of Georgia has received a grant from the Global Environment Facility, and intends to apply part of the proceeds of this grant to payments under the contract for the Development of Protected Areas Plan for Central Caucasus Planning Region.
The services include: Development of Baseline Assessment/Information Synthesis including relevant literature review and field assessment with elaboration of concise GIS database; Development of Protected Areas Management Guidelines for Central Caucasus Planning Region and building capacities of local NGOs and stakeholders through participatory process of planning; Development of Comprehensive Management Plans for High Priority Protected Areas. Duration of the services is 2.5 years. GEF Trust Fund Grant # TF023968GE.
The Georgia Protected Areas Development Center now invites eligible consultants to indicate their interest in providing the services. Interested consultants must provide information indicating that they are qualified to perform the services (brochures, description of similar assignments, experience in similar conditions, availability of appropriate skills among staff, etc.) Consultants may associate to enhance their qualifications.
A consultant will be selected in accordance with the procedures set out in the World Bank's Guidelines: Selection and Employment of Consultants by World Bank Borrowers, January 1997 (revised September 1997 and January 1999). EC Delegation to Georgia Launched a Call for Proposals
On 19 March the European Commission Delegation to Georgia launched a Call for Proposals for micro projects under the European Initiative for Democracy and Human Rights. For more information about the Call for Proposals, please consult the EC Delegation's website www.delgeo.cec.eu.int. You can also download all the necessary documents here.
This Call for Proposals was published on 19 March 2004 and the deadline for receipt of applications is 14 June 2004 at 16.00. No applications will be received after this time.
The Call is open to Georgian non-profit-making non-governmental organizations. Projects should cover one or more of the following priority areas: a) Support to the rule of law and the fight against corruption; b) The fight against torture; c) Combating discrimination against religious and ethnic minorities.
Applicants must be non-profit-making and be a non-governmental organization. Profit making media organizations may also apply provided that the proposed action is non-profit making. They must have their headquarters in Georgia , or be a local independent division of an NGO with its headquarters in another country. Activities must take place in Georgia . Applicants may apply singly or as part of a consortium.
Representatives from the Delegation will hold public information meetings in Tbilisi and the regions of Georgia . Please find below a schedule of meetings. Representatives of interested NGOs are welcome to attend meetings in any of these locations. NGOs are requested to send not more than two representatives each.

Eurasia Foundation Business Case Study Writing Competition
Tbilisi , Georgia — Today the Eurasia Foundation and BP are launching a business case-study writing competition as part of an effort to strengthen business education in Georgia . The competition is open to business professors and consultants who participated in the Eurasia Foundation's weeklong training in mid-March 2004.
The competition participants will have two months to research and develop individual cases on local businesses. An independent panel of international and Georgian experts will judge the case studies. The Eurasia Foundation and BP will announce the results of the competition on June 25, 2004. BP will award prizes to the authors of the best cases. The First prize will be a cash award of $1,200, second and third prize will be $1,000 respectively..
The developed Georgia-specific cases and teaching notes will be published as a manual and circulated among Georgian business schools and posted on the Internet for general use.
Pristina Summer University
In the summer of 2004 the University of Pristina (UP) and the Academic Training Association (ATA) will organize the 4th edition of the Pristina Summer University in Kosovo. The program will bring together the regional & international professors and lecturers for a period of three weeks and will provide about 35 courses and workshops in the field of humanities, law, economics, social sciences, arts, medicine and natural sciences. In addition, public discussions, lectures etc. will be organized on prominent issues in Kosovar and (South) East European society.
Recreational events and excursions will also be organized for students and staff. Six hundred participants will be accepted at the PSU 2003, of which 450 from Kosovo, 100 participants from SEE/ CEE & NIS, and 50 self-financing international students.

Since 1995 the Mental Disability Advocacy Program (MDAP) of the Open Society Institute (OSI) has supported initiatives that seek to address the massive over institutionalization, the lack of community-based services, and general social exclusion of people with mental disabilities in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) and the Former Soviet Union (FSU).
Mental Disability Advocacy Program is looking for a Senior Program Manager. The MDAP Senior Program Manager will be responsible for MDAP's grant-making program and related activities that are focused on developing sustainable high quality community-based services and advocating for the social inclusion of people with mental disabilities. S/he reports to the MDAP Director in Budapest .
Qualifications
Essential:
- Minimum of 5 years relevant work experience in development related to human rights and/or mental disabilities
- Proven experience in program and grant management including monitoring and evaluation.
- Fluent English speaker and writer.
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
- Proven advocacy and/or community organizing skills.
- Ability to effectively manage several projects simultaneously in a fast-paced working environment.
- Willingness to travel internationally on a frequent basis.

UNDP/Georgia Announced the Vacancy on the Position of a Project Manager
In April 2004 UNDP/Georgia initiated a project titled “Promoting the Use of Renewable Energy Resources for Local Energy Supply.” The objective of the project is to remove the key barriers to the increased utilization of renewable energy for local energy supply.
Qualifications:
University degree in the field relevant to the project;
Demonstrated capacity to effectively manage projects financed by international donors in Georgia ;
Good knowledge and experience on dealing with the existing governmental structures and policy framework to overcome existing legal, regulatory and other policy related barriers to successfully launching the first demonstration projects and to promoting the development of Georgia's renewable sector in general;
Good interpersonal and training skills;
Good computer skills;
Fluency both in Georgian and English languages;
Familiarity with the UNDP rules and regulations is a strong asset.
