Issue No. 3 develops important themes for rural communities, including local rights to clean water, air and environment. We look at tools for ensuring local populations’ rights to a healthy environment, some of the international agreements that Georgia has signed, as well as how teachers can transmit good ecological awareness to their students. We include Veterinarians without borders’ program report on rabies awareness. An overview of concerns about foodways in Georgia outlines the increasing importance of becoming aware of how food is affecting Georgian development. This issue also continues former discussions on the progress being made in the field of de-institutionalization of children and the access of disabled children to a dignified life and more adequate education.

Issue No. 2 of Social Policy in Georgia addresses several facets of the developing field of social work and future possibilities for social work education. We have included the experience of those who train and those who have already begun working in social work, mainly in the fields of child welfare. The Georgia Community Mobilization Initiative that has been under way for two years has generated interest and change all over the country at the local level-these activities and those generated by other programs--provide examples to follow as the program continues over the next two years.
